Introduction

The most crucial element of society’s political system is political parties. This is determined by their place and role in the political system as an intermediary between civil society and the state and an instrument of control by social groups of society over state power (Warshaw 464). Moreover, depending on which party obtains more support from voters in the U.S., their official positions on essential issues are implemented. That is, this includes health care, immigration policy, education, and other sectors that are essential to the support of the U.S. population. In the United States, the major parties are the Democratic and Republican parties, and the smaller ones include the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, and the Constitution Party (Warshaw 465). Hence, it is crucial to identify the official positions of the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the Green Party on taxation, illegal migration, and the medical field and provide my thoughts on this.

Taxes

It is significant to mention that the Democratic Party in the United States adheres to the position of progressive taxation. That is, they believe that the level of taxes should be based on the income of each citizen, which will prevent economic inequality. Meanwhile, they believe that taxpayers’ money should be spent on social spending more than on the military (The Democratic Party). In addition, the official position of the Republican Party includes a reduction of the tax burden but points out that the tax should be the same for everyone because all human beings are equal (House Republicans). The Green Party stands for a fair tax system that should be based on the principles of equitable distribution and environmental sustainability (The Green Party of the United States). Members of the party argue that interest rate breaks should be avoided and taxes should be fixed based on the ability to pay.

Illegal Immigration

The Republicans perceive migrants as a threat to the national welfare of the United States, so their position is based on paying significant attention to the security of the national border. Accordingly, representatives of the Republican Party support strengthening the national border and deportation of illegal migrants from the United States (House Republicans). In contrast, the Democratic Party representatives do not have such radical views on migration policy as the Republicans. Thus, their official position focuses on providing opportunities for undocumented migrants to obtain legal status in the United States so that they can work and pay taxes to the state budget (The Democratic Party). Nevertheless, the Green Party has a position that they do not support the forced deportation of undocumented migrants. The party’s representatives also believe immigration policy should be based on humanistic values (The Green Party of the United States). Therefore, they positively assess the contribution of illegal migrants to the U.S. economy after they legalize their stay in the country.

Healthcare

The official position of the Democratic Party is based on the fact that every American has the right to health care. Hence, they lobbied for implementing Medicare and Medicaid, according to which every citizen can receive a minimum package of medical services (The Democratic Party). On the other hand, the Republican Party supports the idea that the health care system should be patient-centered and not regulated by the government (House Republicans). Accordingly, their official position is to reduce government regulation of the healthcare sector, enhance industry competition, and improve the quality of healthcare services. The Green Party advocates universal healthcare based on the single-payer principle (The Green Party of the United States). Therefore, the party representatives argue that this will make it more comfortable for citizens to exercise their legal rights to treatment and care.

My Opinions

I consider the Democratic Party, a government-focused party, to support the idea that the government should take care of people. On the other hand, the Republicans rely on individuals and maintain that each person should provide for themselves and that the government needs to enable people to achieve what they want (Warshaw 465). Accordingly, I stand with the Democratic Party because I believe that it is the government’s and politicians’ primary responsibility to promote citizens’ welfare. This is particularly evident in the field of illegal migration or healthcare because the Democrats are restoring opportunities for migrants to receive a chance for a better life, and people who cannot pay for treatment on their own are provided with state aid. Consequently, I support this policy because, in the long run, it will increase the revenue to the budget through the influx of labor and the preservation of American children. As a result, the official position of the Democratic Party is closer to my personal beliefs and values.

Conclusion

Therefore, the Democratic and Republican Parties are the main parties in the US political system, while the Green Party is less influential. Nevertheless, all major parties present their positions on critical public policy issues and implement them in case of winning the elections. Accordingly, the Republicans support equal taxation for all, while the Democrats and the Green Party propose taxes based on citizens’ income. In addition, the Republican Party views migrants as a threat to the welfare of the United States, while Democrats and the Green Party believe it is necessary to legalize their stay in the United States and prevent deportation. Moreover, the Republican Party believes that the state should ensure free competition in the healthcare market and not interfere in this process. Instead, the positions of the Democratic Party and Green Party are based on helping low-income citizens and guaranteeing the right to health care for code residents of the United States. Therefore, after analyzing the parties’ official positions, I support the Democrats because their principles align with my ideas and values.
