In the past 100 years, Protect Children International Organization (PCIO) has been dedicated to supporting the ever-growing number of children affected by issues such as war, famine, and drought across the world. During the initial stages of the entity, 25 partners wholly committed to helping through the donation of funds, food, clothing, medications, and other necessities to aid the young ones facing a significant situation in their respective countries. Currently, PCIO has become a mega-corporation having several offices on different continents to help facilitate service delivery to the most vulnerable groups. The staff members across the world work tirelessly to ensure the young ones without the ability to reach the organization are located and the needed support is provided to promote their overall well-being. Currently, our entity has over 1000 partners contributing effectively to influence the daily operations of the firm. The entity usually works in accordance with the set laws and regulations in the respective country to limit issues that can affect the programs. Since the inception of the PCIO, over 43 million children have benefitted from the services offered by the organization.

Following the growing influence of digitalization across the globe, most people have been donating relentlessly to ensure the affected children obtain their rights as their peers in safe locations. The general support from different donors, communities, churches and other well-wishes has been the core to the success of our non-profit organization. The constant support has been driving the entity to achieve its objectives as well as focus on its future vision. The PCIO management teams have been at the forefront to ensure the organization is operated effectively and efficiently over the years. The outstanding performance attained in the past decade is based on the critical thinking and appropriate planning undertaken by the respective leaders in charge during those periods. However, following the dynamic nature of management and overwhelming circumstances across the world, PCIO requires an appropriate strategic plan to enable it to become more effective in providing services to young children across the globe.

In recent years, the world has recorded a high level of poverty, especially in African countries, Asia, and other parts of the world. The aspect is majorly attributed to the ever-changing climatic condition which is affecting food production and the poor resource management by the governments in the mentioned regions (Cooper et al., 2019). Similarly, the menace of war has further deprived children of their rights in nations such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, Somalia, and even Nigeria (Frankelius, 2019). In order to provide the necessary support for the young ones, our management body must structure a proper plan to oversee the achievement of the organization’s goals. Following the recent review of the entity’s performance, we have been doing great work in helping the affected children but the organization is yet to explore its full potential. There are cases across the world where we are not having offices thus making it a challenge to uncover the problems in such regions. The PCIO strategic plan is to expand its operations to reach all children that are unable to meet their basic needs due to war, poverty, and famine across the world.

Executive Summary

The PCIO is one of the many charity organizations across the world committed to ensuring the young ones have better life especially children from drought-infested regions, countries having conflicts, and places having inadequate food supplies. The organization has been operational for more than 10 decades and it has managed to impact lives in Asia, Africa, Europe, America, and other areas. Based on the strategic plan, PCIO is preparing to continue expanding its operations to ensure places that are yet to benefit are included in the program.

Over the past two decades, the world has undergone tremendous change ranging from technology to climatic conditions. Most people have become victims of the advancement, especially in the labor market where jobs are being replaced by machines. The aspect has rendered a significant population jobless leaving them with limited resources to provide for their family. Similarly, world politics has become immense causing a rise in geopolitical tension. For instance, the current incident between Russia and Ukraine has affected the livelihood of people in the region making the children require immediate attention and necessary support (Mykhnenko, 2020). The cases present challenges that PCIO intends to solve in order t ensure the victims of war and famine are able to afford basic living standards. In the PCIO strategic plan, the organization intends to increase its sources of income to enable it to fund the programs, incorporate leaders from communities, and involve local authorities to ensure access to every location that requires support.

The PCIO strategic plan encompasses:

  • Expanding operations to regions that are most affected by war and internal conflicts.
  • Supporting families suffering from famine and drought, especially in sub-Saharan countries.
  • Channeling resources to local communities to enable them to alleviate poverty to enable children can access adequate food.
  • Constructing boreholes to provide a sustainable supply of water to be used for irrigation purposes.
  • Establishing safe havens where displaced families can stay safely with their young ones.
  • Construction of adequate children’s homes to support young ones who have lost their parents and have no one to care for them.
  • Sourcing external funding from the World Bank and other financial institutions to facilitate the projects.
  • Expanding the services to countries such as Taiwan, India, Malaysia, and Iran.
  • Investing in technological infrastructure to facilitate effective communication across the offices in different countries.
  • Supporting the staff members and educating them on essential management roles to ensure a proper change in the organization.
  • Creating active links to enable people willing to directly help young ones reach them in their respective countries.

Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission Statement

The mission of PCIO is to create a brighter day for children in famine, war, and drought-infested regions by ensuring a sufficient supply of food, clothing, shelter, and medical support across the world.

Vision Statement

To create a world in which children attain the maximum right to protection, survival, and general psychological, and social development.

Values and Principles

  • Children need maximum protection from war zones and other conditions such as famine and drought.
  • Through the provision of direct services to children, we are capable of impacting various families across the world to improve their peace and livelihood.
  • By protecting vulnerable children, we promote their interests and grow their abilities to become better people in the future.
  • By educating communities on different ways of harmonizing resources, we believe the organization will be in a position in achieving its mission.
  • The programs guarantee the vulnerable population access to necessities such as food, clothing, medication, protection, and shelter.
  • The operations are transparent and all children irrespective of their ethnic, religion, social, and gender have the right to receive support from the organization.

History and Current Context

PCIO has a rich historical background following its involvement in charity services since its formation over years ago. The organization has remained dedicated to providing support to children across the world. During World War I and II, the entity was faced with a significant challenge that required it to protect children in more than 30 countries. Despite the pressure associated with the conflict, PCIO managed to offer its services to the most affected and vulnerable families. The management of the organization opted to work closely with other child cares in respective countries to facilitate quick access to the young ones located especially in remote areas. Apart from the aspect of war, the encroaching famine in some parts of the Middle East and Africa has been part of the entity’s project to ensure the young ones from the regions have access to food supplies to sustain their well-being. PCIO has managed to offer the necessary assistance including training the local people in different ways of producing food products in the drought-infested regions.

Even though there are significant changes in the world, the current status of war, drought, and famine has increased demanding more support to make the young ones attain their survival rights. For instance, in Ukraine, the ongoing war has affected the well-being of children in the region. Similarly, in Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other local feuds is a common challenge facing children. Therefore, to be able to provide the required assistance, PCIOs have to be proactive and have a substantial strategic plan to serve the mission of the organization. Some of the inevitable changes in the current world include:

Demand

Poor economic performance and a decrease in government aid have left most families vulnerable, especially in developing countries. Most people are leaving below the poverty level and thus cannot provide all the necessities to their loved ones. This aspect has led to an increase in the demand for the organization’s services which is a challenge to meet due to the current capacity of the firm and its available resources.

Implication

PCIO must formulate effective ways to improve its operational capacity as well as the ability to acquire the necessary funding to facilitate service delivery.

Demographics

In the past few years, the aspect of migration has become immense making communities around the world to be significantly diverse. Issues such as language, ethnicity, and even culture are varied.

Implication

PCIO needs to invest effectively in its internal development to ensure the staff members are well trained and aware of the impacts of demographic structure to promote efficient service delivery across the varied communities.

Technology

There are new technologies that support communication across the globe such as computers, mobile and laptops which have made operational services more convenient based on communication.

Implication

PCIO should invest in current technology and acquire various emerging systems to facilitate its operational services across the globe. In other words, the firm should undertake effective restructuring to ensure it replaces the old platforms with more current ones to enhance efficiency in service delivery and other necessary processes such as making follow-ups (Wu & Zhu, 2020).

Geopolitics

Currently, there are growing political dismays in most countries that affect government operations.

Implication

PCIO should remain neutral and focus majorly on helping the vulnerable population to attain their basic needs in their respective countries. The aspect will enable the entity to have access to most of the affected countries without issues of political ties which can significantly impact the service delivery.

Funding

Currently, partners’ funding is declining as most of the parties tend to provide charitable services directly to the communities.

Implication

PCIO should seek support globally to increase the number of individuals willing to support the operations. Furthermore, the organization should consider investing in other key developments to enable it to generate income to be challenged towards supporting needy children.

About Our Organization

Founded: 1918

Current Operations: over 43 million children have benefitted from the organization’s services.

Current Budget: $250 million

Current and Future Programs:

  • Relief Food: PCIO provides children who are victims of war, famine, and drought with food packages to sustain them. The food products have been distributed to the communities that are hit by unforeseen calamities.
  • Medical Attention: children are vulnerable to disease and thus they need constant medical attention. PCIO offers medical services to young ones who are coming from poor backgrounds and their families as well as the government is unable to provide the programs. The entity ensures timely, quality, and effective healthcare support to the victims of war and famine.
  • Community Benefits: PCIO constructs boreholes and educates the people on various ways to produce their food to curb the prevailing poverty. Such programs enrich society with necessary knowledge thus leading to an increase in food production to fight hunger.
  • Housing: The organization assists families which are not able to afford a decent house to have one. The approach ensures that children from such relations have access to proper shelter. Furthermore, the entity intervenes in war zones to provide displaced persons with housing to enable them to protect their young ones from adverse conditions.
  • Clothing: PCIO provides clothes to children whose parents are unable to buy them apparel.

Core Future Strategies

Expanding Operational Services to Countries Affected by Warfare

Following the current trend, most children in countries facing geopolitical setbacks face significant challenges. Therefore, in the future, PCIO will focus on establishing its operations in regions that are more likely to experience conflicts. This aspect will make it easier for the entity to reach out to the young ones and their families in the event of warfare. For instance, attention will be directed to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the West, and Africa. The approach will ensure adequate coverage of the hotspot zones thus making service delivery to be optimal.

Background of the Strategy

PCIO has a limited number of offices in the Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe. The main office is situated in London where key operations are discharged. This aspect makes it challenging for the firm to respond immediately to war crises, hunger, and drought in far places. Therefore, the overall capacity of the organization to serve the needy children in such areas has been a significant challenge making some young ones suffer from the conflicts.

Highlights in the Strategic Plan

  • Location: undertaking a feasibility study for renting or constructing new offices in West Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
  • Staffing: Recruiting staff members with the ability to speak more than one language to facilitate effective communication in areas that have diverse communities.
  • Technology: Adopt specific technology that will enable the organization reaches communities that are yet to receive services when they are in need.
  • Partnership: Develop an effective collaboration with local communities to assist in delivering services to the affected children in the war-prone regions.

Supporting Families Suffering from Famine and Drought Sub-Saharan Region

Children from the countries in Sub-Sahara are facing extreme hunger due to persistent drought and famine in the region. Following the weather pattern in the area, most of the families are unable to produce adequate produce to cater to the needs of their members. PCIO will work closely with the governments and the local communities to locate vulnerable homes to receive necessary aid. Staff members will be taught the criteria to be used in distributing resources to ensure almost every individual receives the items.

Background of the Strategy

Over the past years, there has been an increasing call to support needy families in the Sub-Saharan region. The climatic condition in the area is not favorable and the governments are doing less to provide necessary aid to their citizens. Currently, PCIO has taken into consideration the need to have its offices in most countries in the zone to facilitate quick access and provision of food and other basic necessities.

Highlights in the Strategic Plan

  • Constructing Boreholes: PCIO has set in place several programs to construct several sources of water to enable people to access clean and reliable water that can be used for irrigation purposes.
  • Providing Seeds: The organization has partnered with global researchers to develop drought-resistant seeds that can be planted in the region despite the limited amount of rainfall.
