The political speech “People and Peace, Not Profits and War” was pronounced by Shirley Chisholm on March 26, 1969, to the US House of Representatives. She was an African-American Congresswoman from New York, and her speech was against the Vietnam war and the draft. The politician drew attention to the need to rethink the work of the state and the priority goals of foreign policy. The main purpose of the speech was to condemn the hostilities and the spending of millions of dollars on foreign policy. Shirley was against the waste of money on fighting and called for it to be used for the benefit of citizens and building schools.

She also drew attention to the fact that it is necessary to rethink the goals and priorities of the state and improve the financing system, namely, the purposes for which money is allocated. Also, Shirley Chisholm drew attention to the fact that people cannot be sure that such an amount of money was honestly spent since no one sees concrete results. The Congresswoman called for an end to provoking the development of the Cold War by increasing tension and defense forces. She called the war a form of business in America and invoked a change in politics. Namely, to abandon militarized aggression to develop the welfare of citizens, education, and internal well-being. In addition, Shirley Chisholm was going to vote “No” for every bill concerning money allocated to the Department of Defense, until this bill would not be influencing the prosperity of US citizens.
